Bushbunker – Bushfire Safety Bunkers

2009-05-22-070752With the recent California Fires still fresh in the minds of many, the Bushbunker fire safety bunkers will definitely provide a great escape should the need arise.  Able to survive direct flames for up to 4 hours, seats 6 adults,  air tight, equiped with air cyliders to help occupants breathe during the fire, these units (made of concrete) are exceptional.  And at $20,000 they’re sort of a bargain too.  More after the jump:

From Bushbunker.com:

“Bushbunker represents a concept that has been designed from scratch specifically as a bushfire bunker, and comprehensively engineered to withstand the severe environmental conditions that a major bushfire produces.  It has been designed for maximum survivor ability no matter the intensity or type of fire.

Bushbunker makes use of a variety of innovative and proven fire engineering techniques and methods to provide a unique design unlike anything currently available on the market.  The shell is constructed from 300mm thick, steel reinforced, fire retardant concrete and consists of a flexible, modular design that is prefabricated using pod mass production and quality control.  This means that the entire concrete structure is fabricated in once piece, providing enhanced structural integrity and a completely water and air tight solution.  It is highly recommended that the Bushbunker be completely buried underground so as to make use of the insulating properties of the earth.  However, due to some site conditions we realise that this is not always possible and we have therefore designed the Bushbunker to also be able to be partially buried or set into an embankment with some surfaces exposed.”
